M. Kathleen Warren
Art was part of Kathleen’s world from elementary school days, and she was encouraged at home, in classes, and in private lessons to explore different media and ways to express what she was seeing and feeling. When Kathleen first picked up a camera, she fell in love with photography and then with the magic of the darkroom. After years of informal learning, Kathleen studied formally to earn a degree in photography, where she learned about and from diverse image-makers including the passionate young photographers whose vision was so much different than her own.
More recently, Kathleen has brought a tactile component into her artwork by combining her impressionistic photographs with encaustic wax using layers and textures. Far from diverting her from art, Kathleen’s diverse experiences both working professionally with horses and teaching biological sciences at the college level, have enriched the depth of her vision and storytelling.
Her affiliations with various artist organizations and galleries have also contributed significantly to her growth by enabling fruitful exchanges of ideas and techniques. Kathleen enjoys sharing her art knowledge and passion by teaching classes and workshops regionally, and her passion is to enable student-artists to create their own vision using skills from the class. She learns as much from these students as they learn from her, and she is continually gleaning new stories from the creative people around her.
